Choosing a Background Image (and Resizing)

For the best results we recommend photos formatted in a .png filetype that are 1680 x 1050 pixels at 72 DPI. Smaller photos are fine if your trying to have only a section of your profile contain a photo, but if the intent is to fill the entire page we recommend selecting only larger picture files. If the image you have doesn't fit these dimensions, there are a number of editing tools you can use. A couple of our favorites are Aviary and Skitch. Read about more in our blog post here.

To change your image, simply do the following: Sign in to your about.me account, then click 'Edit Page' (located on the top-right portion of your browser next to 'Dashboard). If you have an already uploaded photo on Facebook or Instagram that you would like to use, it can be directly uploaded into about.me by clicking on either icon and selecting the photo:

If you choose to import photos from Instagram, you have two more options in terms of photo placement.

  1. The first is to use a single photo from your profile and have your personalized bio box on the reverse side of the photo. Simply choose your desired side and photo.
  2. The second option is to create a tiled background comprised of all the photos on your Instagram profile. To do this, the first step is to have synched your Instagram profile to your about.me page. Next, simply click on the "Create a Tiled Background" button to begin the creation of your tiled background.

If you want a simple, full-screen, background, you can follow these steps. Make sure you have the 'Backgrounds' tab selected and then look for the large green button at the top of the Backgrounds tab. Click that and you can choose from any image on your computer. Your image should be close to the maximum display size, to best fit the background.

If you’d prefer to use a default image, simply scroll through the Gallery Backgrounds and click the one you’d like to use. Any background you’ve used will remain in Your Saved Backgrounds so it’s easy to go back to a previous image.

Finally, try out each of the Center, Tile and Scale options for your background. Update your Fonts and Colors to match the background you’ve chosen for a great looking page!
